Julie Sanders brings 30 years’ experience in the publishing industry to the table, and has been editing college essays and memoirs for the last several years. Long familiar with first-person writing, she has also written and published personal essays of her own, from heartfelt to humorous, in Bethesda Magazine.

After graduating from Dickinson College with a degree in English, Julie took a job as a book editor of both fiction and nonfiction with the Reader’s Digest, where she worked—on staff and then as a freelancer—for 20 years. After moving to the DC area, she began writing for Bethesda Magazine and joined the staff of Home & Design seven years ago as the senior editor.

Julie has a special rapport with high school students and a track record of coaxing out their best work. She encourages ideas and fosters creativity; after years of training as an editor, she is expert at improving essays while safeguarding each student’s unique voice.

Julie lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of DC and is available to work with students at their homes.
